Community Helpers

Last week we began our unit on Community Helpers.  We started the week by talking about what makes up our communtiy.  We listed people, jobs, buildings, and places.  I brought in some fun dress up clothes that the kids have enjoyed at our home living center! They also enjoyed playing with the community buildings and vehicles in the building center.  We read "Officer Buckle and Gloria" and talked about how police officers help us in our communtiy.  We made police officers that are on display in the classroom.  We will continue the unit this week and will end the week making edible firetrucks~yum!! I will be asking for a few items to be sent in for those.

Thank you for all of those who made an extra effort to be there on Monday night for our parent night.  If you weren't there and have questions about the packet that I sent home, please let me know!

Believe it or not, October is upon us this week! The cool weather brings with it our upcoming Harvest Hoedown, CASA's open house, supper, and silent auction, and another field trip- this time to Old Baker Farm! Lots of fun ahead! Thank you for your continuing support and for sharing your babies with me each day!

Children's Theater Fun

We had so much fun on Friday on our first field trip of the year! We enjoyed the production of City Mouse/Country Mouse at the Wee Folks Theater.  I hope that the kids told you all about it! Here are a few pictures of our trip.  We were so excited to be able to meet the cast after the show as well! Thanks for all of the chaperones who went along as well!

All About Me

Happy Friday everyone! We have had a busy week as we have been learning all about each other! Some of the fun books that we have read this week include, "My Crayons Talk," "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom," " Chrysanthemum," "I Like Me," "and "Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons."  We focused on the color red this week.  Thank you for sending in pictures of red items.  We have begun creating a color caterpillar and he will grow each week as we add a new color to his body.  We made Chicka Chicka Boom Boom trees and counted the letters on our trees.  We also graphed the letters in our names and found out who had the longest name in our class and who had the shortest name.  Some of the new centers that we visited this week included play dough and puzzles along with some of the same ones from last week.  We have been playing a fun game on the computer called "Charlie the Church Mouse." It has become a favorite! We learned all about the letter I this week also! We have been writing in our journals each day and have created some beautiful masterpieces! Journals will come home at the end of the month.

I am having fun getting to know this bunch of kiddos! We have a sweet class and I look forward to what's to come! Thank you for sharing your babies with me each day! Have a blessed weekend!

  • Parent Night...Monday, September 23 at 6:00
  • Coming Up...Children's Theater on Friday, September 27.  I still have a few chaperone spots open.  Let me know if you'd like to go.

We have had an awesome first week in our CASA Kindergarten! We have been reading all kinds of back to school books, such as "Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready For Kindergarten," On Our Way to Kindergarten," "Look Out Kindergarten, Here I Come," and "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom."  We are doing a great job adjusting to our daily routine.  We have been doing calendar math each morning and we have also started writing and drawing in our September journals.  The kids have had a chance to explore some our classroom centers including Book Nook, Home Living, Building, Writing Workshop, Math Tubs, and Computer.  We have also visited several special classes this week including, Music, Movement, Spanish, Science, Computer, and Bible. We will continue to get to know one another next week as we explore "All About Me."

Upcoming Dates to Remember:
  • CASA Kindergarten Parent night (Parents only... we will have Open House in October.)
  • Field Trip to Children's Theater on Friday, September 27.  We can have up to 7 parent chaperones for this trip.  For most of our field trips there is no limit, so if you do not get to go on this one, there will be plenty more.  Please let me know if you would like to go.  There will be a charge of $8 per person for this trip (children and adults).  I will be sending home a permission slip the week before the trip.  I will also collect money at that time.
