March Memories!

I'm not quite sure where the month of March went, but wow~ Welcome April!! We have been busy and have been learning lots!

We started out the month of March with our unit on Nutrition.  This is always one of my favorites and I think that the kids really enjoy it too.  We learned all about the five different food groups.  We read several non-fiction books about the different food groups and we learned about what a well-balanced meal consists of. The kids really enjoyed identifying the different food groups that were in their lunches each day.  We made some awesome food pyramid people that have been displayed in our classrooms.  Those will be coming home in the next few weeks.

After Nutrition, we moved on to our Weather unit and the highlight of that week by far, was our station tour at ABC 33/40.  The kids loved walking through a real news station and seeing how everything works behind the scenes.  We even got some air time on the news that day- so cool!

We finished up the month last week as we learned all about the Easter story.  We read the Easter story from a children's Bible and we were so proud and pleased of all they knew.  We had fun making Easter bunnies with our feet and I know that the kids had a fabulous time at the Easter egg hunt on Thursday.  Thanks so much to all of the parents who came together to make it such a success!

This month we will be doing our Big Back Yard unit.  We will spend most of the month on this, as we cover everything you might find in your backyard~ plants, insects, and more!  We will be making all kinds of insect crafts, as well as planting seeds and watching them grow in our classroom.  We will be discussing life cycles, identifying parts of an insect and parts of a plant.  It should be lots of fun!

We continue to read with the children on a daily basis.  As the small readers are returned, we do our best to listen to them read and send home a new one within a few days.  We continue to work on sight words and writing sentences in our journals.  We will also be working on identifying coins as well as reviewing numbers through 20.  Please work with your child on learning their phone number, as we will reasses that at the end of the year.  We will be happy to meet with you for an end of the year conference, but it is not required.  We will touch base about conferences at the beginning of May.

Elementary tours are going on now.  Those going to Mt. Laurel went today.  Inverness is Monday and Oak Mountain and Chelsea Park are next Wednesday.  Please return your permission slip if your child is going on a tour.
