Busy Kindergarteners!

Well another exciting week is coming to a close.  We have had so much fun as we have continued getting to know one another.  Thank you for sending in the All About Me packets.  We are sharing two or three of those a day and will continue to do that next week as well.  We read "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" and made our very own chicka chicka trees with letters of the alphabet.  We also read "The Kissing Hand," and did a writing activity about how we feel when we come to school.
Thank you to all of you who took out the time to come to Parent Night on Tuesday.  It was wonderful to see so many of you and we hope that it was informative for you.  If you have questions, or weren't able to come and did not get a packet in your child's folder, please let us know.
We will begin our unit on Community Helpers next week.  We look forward to the fun activities that we have planned as we learn all about the community around us.  In the next couple of weeks we will be making edible firetrucks.  We will need some ingredients sent in, so be on the look out for an email next week about that.
We celebrated Alex's birthday today with cupcakes after lunch! What a treat and Happy Birthday Alex!
Don't forget to arrive on time tomorrow morning for our field trip.  We'll be departing shortly after carpool.  Please dress your child in their CASA t-shirt.
  • If anyone would like to volunteer to make or have a star student t-shirt made for our class, please let us know! I have one from last year, but Ms. Alissa does not have one. The children love to have a special tee to wear during their Star Student week!
  • The kids have enjoyed playing games on the computer during center time.  Some of our favorite websites are www.pbskids.com, www.abcya.com, www.starfall.com
Thank you all for your continued support! It is a blessing to teach your babies each day! Have a wonderful weekend!

Week Two!

We have had a great second week here at school and it already feels like we've been here much longer! The kids are really adjusting well, as are Ms. Alissa and I as we learn our new routine.  We have begun our All About Me unit this week and we read several books highlighting the unique individuals that we are! One of our special activities this week included reading the Kevin Henkes book, "Chrysanthemum." It is the story of a little mouse who gets made fun of because her name is so long.  We made a class graph and counted the letters in each of our names.  We then looked at who had the longest name in our class and who had the shortest name.  We also drew self portraits that will be on display in our classroom.  Another book that we read was, "I Like Me." After hearing this story, we wrote about why we like ourselves.  It has been a fun and productive week!

Reminders:
  • Our first field trip to Children's Theater is next Friday, the 21st.  Please return your permission slip and money if you have not done so already.
  • Our Kindergarten parent night is next Tuesday evening, the 18th at 6:00.  This is for parents only.  It should not last any longer than about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  • Mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 23.  This is our Spaghetti supper/silent auction.  Information regarding this is coming home in your child's folder today.
Thank you for sharing your sweet children with us each day.  They are a blessing to us! Please let us know if you ever have questions or concerns.  Have a fabulous weekend!

Welcome!

Our first week at CASA was great! The kids were happy and adjusted quickly to their new classrooms and surroundings.  We read lots of books about Kindergarten and the beginnings of a new school year.  We enjoyed getting to know one another, sang songs, played games, wrote in our daily journals, and went to many fun special classes.  These included music, science, computer, Spanish, and Bible/missions.  The children had opportunities to spend time in both Ms. Alissa and Ms. Julie's classrooms.  Next week we will begin eating lunch together in the CLC (our own little lunchroom!) We look forward to all that is ahead of us!
